About Caran d'Ache
Caran d'Ache, (the
Russian word for pencil), was the adopted name of
a talented French designer, Emmanuel Poirè,
famous for his caricatures in Parisian newspapers
at the turn of the 19th Century. To honour the memory
of this great artist, founder Arnold Schweitzer,
named his new company The Caran d'Ache Swiss Pencil
Factory, when it was launched in 1924.
Today, the name Caran d'Ache is synonymous with
high quality artist materials. The company is dedicated
to improving and developing new and exciting products
for the use and enjoyment of art
